Jerez rd 2&3

The famous Jerez Circuit in the Andelucian region of Spain was the stage for Rounds 2 & 3 of the RFME Moto3 Spanish Championship for Racing Steps Foundation backed Rory and his KRP Moto3 Team headed by team boss Mark Keen.

Temperatures were into the 30’s over the weekend with track temperatures reaching into the 50’s.

Free practice and qualifying went well with Rory and the team working hard to find the best settings for Rory to take his KRP Honda to 8th position on the grid for the two championship races over the weekend.

Race 1

On the opening lap Rory was tangled in a group of riders from 4th place to 13th having been forced to take avoiding action with a rider in front and ran wide forcing him back from 4th position down the order.. Over the next few laps Rory got his head down and bridged the gap to the riders in front, picking them off one by one with fantastic race craft until he caught up with and had a fantastic 4 rider battle for 5th position.

Over the remaining 4 laps Rory led the group many times with their positions changing at every corner until on the last lap when Rory managed to pull a few tenths on the pack and came across the line in 5th position and posting the 4th fastest lap time of the race.

Race 2

Hoping to carry on from his fantastic race 1 performance, Rory got off the line and was in 4 th place by turn 1, by turn 2, two other riders run up the inside forcing Rory wide and over the rumble strip… Loosing several places by turn 3 as he had scrubbed off speed.

Over the remainder of the race Rory held his position and came over the line in a credible 7th place.

Rory said: I have had a good weekend with a 5th in race 1 and 7th in race 2. My team are professionals, have worked really hard and we are finding a good setting for me, all the ingredients are right and I am steadily progressing. The level of competition in this class is very high, running with some very fast riders from some top teams. I am really happy with my step up to this championship and look forward to the next round that I will compete in at the Aragon Circuit at the end of July.

A big thanks to Racing Steps Foundation, KRP, Bennets Insurance, Bike Social, Tokheim and go all my other Sponsors, Facebook and Twitter followers friends and family for all your support.
